Photograph of Reno photographer Roy Curtis with his camera at Secret Valley, California in March 1928; when the photograph was later published in the Nevada State Journal, it carried the caption: Sent to Secret Valley to get some pictures for the Reno Chamber of Commerce when Secret Valley, north of Reno in California, was a rival of Hawthorne for the Naval Ammunition Depot site and was covered with mud and water. Roy Curtis, Reno photographer ruined his shoes, and his assistant lost his entirely. The picture above shows Curtis with his camera parked on some ties standing nearly to his knees in mud, taking a picture of the valley. The picture helped materially in convincing the Navy Department that Hawthorne was the best site. That was the idea behind it. Photographic print, 8 x 10 inches
