| Comments | THIS IS A RESPONSE TO VALENCIA'S "UP WITH SPAIN, " WHICH MOST BASQUES FIND VERY INCORRECT POLITICALLY. IT IS CARVED RIGHT BELOW IT, AND IT TRANSLATES, "The guy who wrote that thing up there is a son-of-a-b****." Not sure whether the insult is directed against Valencia or against Juan (Zabalegui), who is also patriotic and writes things like "Viva Navarra", "español", "Viva España", etc. Differences in political opinions were very strong during these years, Vizcayans being normally "abertzale" and the Navarrese being anti. Among the names on this grove, Valencia, Zabalegi, Otazu, Vidaurreta... are Navarrese. Ajuria, Arrupe, Goikoetxea, Sarria... are Vizcayans. |
