His
name
was
added
in
161
Originally
covered
in
travertine
(now
gone).
Converted
to a
Christian
church
(San
Lorenzo
in
Miranda)
in the
7th
or
8th
century
CE.
Baroque
facade
by
Orazio
Torriani
dates
from
1602.
Excavation
of the
Temple
began
ca.
1801.
As a
result
these
excavations
and those of the of the
Forum
which
restored
the
Via
Sacra
to its
ancient
level
, the
Church
can
no
longer
be
entered
from the
Forum
(west)
side
through
Torriani's
facade
due
to a
vertical
gap
between
the
stairs
and the
building.
