Description/NotesFounded in the 4th c. CE, present Church of San Clemente dates from 1100. When the site of the late 4th-century church was filled in, some of furnishings were salvaged. Pope John II (533-535) was a substantial patron of the church, and many of the salvaged materials date from the 6th century." This panel is in a classic basket weave, pierced and undercut, with egg & dart trim and framed by vine scroll reliefs. See: http://roma.katolsk.no/clemente.htm
