Description/NotesPope Liberius founded S.M.Maggiore 350 CE. Pope Sixtus III restored the building in 432 CE. Church is a basilican plan, although without a transept, which was added in the late 13th c CE by Pope Nicholas IV. Building was damaged by earthquake in 1348 and later restored.
