Description/NotesPope Liberius founded S.M.Maggiore 350 CE. Pope Sixtus III restored the building in 432 CE. Building was damaged by earthquake in 1348 and later restored. Apse mosaic from the late 13th c CE is the Coronation of the Virgin by Jacopo Torriti (active 1270-1300). Church is a basilica plan, although without a transept, which was added by Pope Nicholas IV (1288-1292). See: http://roma.katolsk.no/mariamaggiore.htm#nave
