Two cars are parked by the southern entrance to the Virginia Street Gymnasium with the caption on the image reading, "Our Billets." The Virginia Street Gymnasium, known as the “Old Gym,” was completed for athletics use in 1945, although it was designed seven years earlier by renowned Reno architect Frederic DeLongchamps. Between the years 1943-1944, the building was used to house visiting Aircrew Cadets training for WWII. The building became the main physical training and recreation center until the 1970’s, and today is home to the women’s volleyball team, the Lynn Bremer Study Center for student-athletes, and University Study Abroad Consortium.
